I have so much to be thankful for this year, it’s hard to know where to start. This has been a year of ups and downs, saying hello and saying goodbye, meeting new friends, celebrating old friends. It’s been a year of making changes, making commitments and meting new challenges. It’s been a year of pain and a year of joy. For years, I have always said that what I do as a writer, as an author and as a person has been feast or famine. This year, I experienced both with all the highs and lows they bring with them.
So where do you begin to account for all the little things you are grateful for? The more I stared at this post as I was writing it, the more I realized that I couldn’t make a true list without forgetting someone or something that I was grateful for, but let’s see if I can at least hit all the high notes and believe me, if you aren’t on this list, it’s not because I wasn’t grateful or that I didn’t think it was worth mentioning, it’s because my cup runneth over and I am overwhelmed by all the things I have gratitude for.
Thank you to all my girls, you know who you are. You make me laugh. You listen to my bitchiness. You share your hopes. You celebrate your dreams. You buy my books. And what’s more, you like them. I have no idea why sometimes, but you even like just hanging out with me. It’s always a pleasure.
Thank you to all the authors I know, every single one of you inspires me, teaches me and keeps me putting one letter in front of the other. Those revise and resubmit letters make me crazy and the rejection letters suck, but without all of you I don’t know that I would have stuck to it until I got that first acceptance and the second back to back in the same month. Published for two years, this is the first year I feel like I should be in the same company as the rest of you, but you never made me feel that way and I can’t say thank you enough.
Thank you to all the YA authors out there, both those I know personally and those I don’t, for creating such rich, wonderful worlds that my mini me longs to delve into and explore.
Thank you to Carina Press, Siren-Bookstrand and Sapphire Blue Publishing for all believing in me.
Thank you to the editors who take the time to write those revise and resubmit letters, you don’t have to, but every note helps me be a better writer.
I could go on and on and on, believe me. I could name so many names, but I am terrified I would forget people, so I won’t.
Celebrating the Holidays
Because I am so thankful for so many things, I’ve invited a huge number of fabulous authors and others to celebrate the coming holiday season with our annual Daily Dose Holiday Giveaway. I have almost two dozen wonderful giveaways to share with you beginning tomorrow and running through the 16th of December. Each day a new giveaway will be posted and they will each stay live for 72 hours before a winner will be picked.
Daily Dose Holiday Giveaway
As we go into the holiday season, I have been asking myself what I can do or how I can give to others. It has been a tough year for our family and a tough year for many families whether it is our soldiers fighting overseas, their families waiting at home, death in the families, divorces or economic hard times.
We are very familiar with the choke of the times. At the Daily Dose, I wanted to give something back this holiday season. Years ago, one of our local radio stations used to have write ins for people to nominate families for Christmas or holiday gift certificates. Nominated families or individuals included those who really were not going to have much to celebrate because they couldn’t afford gifts or decorations or a big Christmas meal.
Beginning November 25 and lasting until December 16, the Daily Dose will host a holiday give away post featuring the item and author who is giving it away. To enter, all someone has to do is nominate the person they want to send the gift to and post a short reason why. If that person wins, then the gift will be sent to the recipient with a note wishing them a happy holiday season signed from the author giving it away, the Daily Dose and of course the person who entered them.
So far, we have several authors and items pledged to this effort. Stay tuned to the Daily Dose and be sure to visit daily throughout the holiday season and nominate those you love and care about and send them a gift – and yes, I will send them around the world!
Holiday Giveaway Rules
For a chance to win:
1. Nominate the person you want to send that day’s gift to and a short reason as to why.
2. For an extra entry, spread the word about this giveaway: Blog, Facebook, Twitter, etc. – leave a link in the comments.
3. Leave your email with your comment ONLY IF it is NOT part of your profile.
4. This giveaway is open to everyone for nominations, however you cannot enter yourself.
5. You may only win one gift to send.
6. Giveaways begin November 25 and run through December 16.
As a special edition to the giveaway, several of the authors have donated towards a Kindle Fire that will go to one lucky commentator for giving the gift of caring to someone else in their lives. Every time you nominate someone for a prize is an opportunity to be listed in this giveaway. The final winner of the Kindle Fire will be announced on December 17, so be sure to watch for it!
Thank you Daily Dose readers for hanging out with me each day, even when I have nothing to say (which is far more often than I’d like!).
