Heading to #RT17 – On the Road Again…Sorta

I’m leaving for #RT17 today. While I normally road trip to all my conferences, I had to make some changes this year. Yep, that means I’m booked on a flight. Flying presents a couple of challenges for me: I hate flying. Let me rephrase, I’m absolutely, bloody terrified of it.  I have to be circumspect in what I pack. There isn’t much I can do about the first. The anxiety which strikes when I board a plane has plagued me for years. I have some tips and techniques I employ to help me navigate getting on a plane and taking […]

Virginia Nelson: Comic Book Hypnotism

First off, I want to thank Heather for having me on the blog to talk about comic book characters.  I mean, what a cool topic, right??? There have been many cases of hypnotists throughout comic book history.  From the Mad Hatter who had the ability to just put a hat on and control you—as the mother of teens, I would kill for one of those hats—to the Enchantress who used her powers to molest Thor—hello, Thorgasm—the idea that someone could pick your brain and make you do things you didn’t want to has fascinated far more creative folks than me. […]

Spotlight On: Dakota Cassidy

Today, the Daily Dose shines our Spotlight On on accidental author Dakota Cassidy. She’s smart, she’s sassy and she’s so much fun to talk to. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Dakota, Michele and Rosemary (all featured authors this week) and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know them. Dakota lives right around the corner from me, so that really adds to the fun because we can actually complain about the weather and more. I was tickled when she agreed to this interview and you will soon find out why. Dakota has what I like to call a wealth of personality […]

Sherrilyn Kenyon Live (Book Giveaway)

As you can see from the tattoo on the left, I headed off to meet Sherrilyn Kenyon yesterday. She was visiting a Barnes and Noble in Dallas, about 35 minutes from the house. I didn’t know about Kenyon’s appearance until Donna from Fantasy Dreamer asked if anyone was going. I truly enjoy Sherrilyn Kenyon’s works, I think when I first started reading them they were fresh and original and an entirely different take on the typical vampire mythos. The stories also embraced Greek mythology for which I have a deep fondness. Ultimately, however, the true selling point was the fact […]

The Secret Life of Pantsers

Yesterday at the Dallas Area Romance Authors meeting (my first time), Kathleen Baldwin gave this great presentation on the secret life of a pantser. A pantser for those of you, who don’t know, is a writer who creates by the seat of their pants. They don’t plot, they don’t draw up outlines, they sit down at the computer or with their pen and paper and they create. Letting the Genie Out of the Bottle As a pantser, outlining a story is one of the worst things I can do to myself. A couple of years ago, I got excited by […]
