Relationship Fans Are Brutal

As a romance author, you might say couples are my thing. I don’t mean that I sit around plotting about how to get a couple together (well, actually I do). I don’t mean that I sit and analyze what issues a couple has (well, actually I do that too). What I do mean is that I love to watch the journey of the couple as they go through their ups and downs, their communication issues, their misunderstandings, their passionate clinches and those profound moments when they click. I’m a fan of the whole enchilada in a relationship. The good. The […]

100 Episodes of Bones

On April 8, 2010, Bones aired its one hundredth episode. Hart Hanson wrote the episode, directed by David Boreanaz. The show invites long-time viewers to walk down memory lane in search of Booth and Brennan’s first case together. As viewers know, Dr. Lance Sweets wrote a book about the relationship between Brennan and Booth in which he posits their unique and powerful sexual and romantic chemistry is what they sublimate to solve the cases they do. First Kiss, This Kiss

First kisses are vital to a relationship. They are vital to a relationship, the first blush and the first breath and the first heartbeat of the passion between two people or two characters. I love first kisses, metaphorically and realistically. Someone once said that finding the person you love is bittersweet, because it means your first kiss is the last first kiss. I would argue that every day begins with a first kiss, but that’s the romantic in me. Best First Kisses In books and in movies, first kisses should just blow the roof off. I didn’t like the first […]

Trick or Treat: Five Great Halloween Episodes

I love Halloween. It is my second favorite holiday of the year. I love it for a variety of reasons for the dressing up in costumes to the pranks to the decorating of jack-o’-lanterns to candy corn and trick or treaters coming to your door. I love Halloween. I love the holiday of Samhain and the roots of pagan traditions and I love the modern secular holiday too. It’s the turning of the wheel, the cooling off of the year and the marking of the final harvest. It’s the last hoorah before the winter months set in and we begin […]

Books Turned Television Series

Sookie Stackhouse, Temperance Brennan, Serena va der Woodsen, Aaron Corbet, Richard Cypher, Vicki Nelson, Elena Gilbert and Harry Dresden all have something in common. They were characters in books long before they came to life on television. You’ll find that many of the characters we love on television and in the movies, we loved in books first. Seeking inspiration from the written word is hardly new. Great writing involves powerful visuals and emotional investment. Books also have a built in audience that is likely to tune into the television show. That same audience has preconceived notions about their characters, their […]
