Vampire Diaries Post Mortem: Graduation

It’s been an interesting—and at times enormously frustrating season. I do not think season four of Vampire Diaries will go down as my favorite, from the uneven storytelling to the overabundance of some characters at the expense of others to the beating of some storylines like a dead horse, there were moments of great cheer and moments of throat clutching disappointment, and when I honestly felt some of my passion for this show wane, my bafflement at the choices seemingly being made often left me with a feeling of “really?” rather than “OMG” at the end of every episode. Thankfully, […]

Vampire Diaries Post Mortem The Rager

Yep, I’m days late with this post mortem and I blame deadlines for it, but here I am after rewatching the episode this morning ready to do my breakdown. Don’t worry Once Upon a Time fans, I’m writing up that post mortem next. I want to say that I loved this episode and there was certainly lots to love—but one character storyline in particular made me angry. Really angry. The character in question is Stefan Salvatore. Most of the time I like Stefan, I do. He’s not my favorite, but he’s not a waste of space either. I used to […]

Vampire Diaries Post Mortem: Before Sunset

In the penultimate episode of season three, the stories that seemed stuck in idle hit the pedal to the metal for the residents of Mystic Falls.  While I was clear that I was not a fan of last week’s episode, I knew Matt Davis’ evil Rick would juice up the landscape and give this storyline the necessary pump forward. It was a hell of an episode so drop your socks and grab your crocks, we’re going to get wet on this ride. Vampire Barbie & Skipper Make a Great Team Unbeknownst to all our heroes and heroines, Rick turned at the […]

Vampire Diaries Post Mortem: Our Town

After last week’s thoroughly satisfying kiss it was hard to imagine what the follow up would be, but welcome back to Vampire Diaries Our Town as the war between Klaus and Stefan heats up and everyone in Mystic Falls is caught in the crossfire. If You Think You’re Sexy… …you better be Damon smiling in the shower.  Seriously, Vampire Diaries gods, I can die happy now. He looked so damn relaxed and pleased with the world.  In nearly sixty episodes, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Damon look so happy.  Contrast his pleasure with Elena’s fierce workout and you have the fallout […]

Vampire Diaries Post Mortem: Smells Like Teen Spirit

Stefan won’t leave her alone Hard to believe that in story time it’s just been a year since Elena met the Salvatores for the first time.  It’s been a hell of a year with something like fifty episodes of danger, action, adventure, love, passion, loss and mayhem. And vampires and witches and werewolves, oh my.  Smells Like Teen Spirit is hardly a departure for the series that takes the action and keeps ratcheting it up until sitting back in your seat is damn near impossible. The episode opens at 5:15 in the morning with Elena turning off her alarm clock, then […]
