Vampire Diaries Post Mortem: Graduation

It’s been an interesting—and at times enormously frustrating season. I do not think season four of Vampire Diaries will go down as my favorite, from the uneven storytelling to the overabundance of some characters at the expense of others to the beating of some storylines like a dead horse, there were moments of great cheer and moments of throat clutching disappointment, and when I honestly felt some of my passion for this show wane, my bafflement at the choices seemingly being made often left me with a feeling of “really?” rather than “OMG” at the end of every episode. Thankfully, […]

Vampire Diaries Post Mortem: Stand By Me

As painful as I expected and yes, I have said for months they needed to burn the Gilbert house to the ground–too much pain and blood in that house. While this is not my full post mortem as I am hitting the road today, I wanted to give you a place to chat about it. So come share your thoughts. What did you like? What did you hate? What did you love? For me? I liked Matt reaching out to Elena and Caroline’s need to plan. I loved that Elena absorbed all of Bonnie’s crazy and rejected her premise. She […]

Vampire Diaries Post Mortem – Down the Rabbit Hole

We’ve had to say goodbye to so many characters on The Vampire Diaries beginning with Uncle Zach back in first season. No character on the show has been spared grueling loss since the Salvatores returned to Mystic Falls, but the one who lost the most–Elena–has persevered, fighting to hold onto her hope and her utter humanity in the face of such utter cruelty. Breaking Elena Since waking up a vampire this season, Elena’s faced many challenges–not the least of which was holding onto her humanity and continuing to try and protect her baby brother from all of danger surrounding them. […]

Vampire Diaries Post Mortem: A View to a Kill & More

Oops, I didn’t do a Post Mortem last week, I knew I did one in my head and I certainly talked about the episode, but with deadlines I just didn’t get it done. So here’s a quick hit list about last week: Damon summoned Elena to him, but Klaus through a wrench into it by turning an entire town for Jeremy to kill. Unfortunately Kol has other plans—he really doesn’t like the idea of raising Silas. Point of Order: I knew Kol would compel Damon, but he had to drain the hell out of him to get him to that […]

Vampire Diaries Post Mortem – After School Special

Two lies and a loving truth—I couldn’t help but be utterly delighted as The Vampire Diaries returned with a powerful, poignant episode motivated by two of the most narcissistic characters the show has ever seen. Carol Lockwood, You Will Be Missed The funeral is taking place in the high school gym—which I don’t completely understand. That said, Liz’s eulogy was lovely and made all the more powerful by Tyler’s emotional breakdown as he had to get out of there. Like Elena and Jeremy before him, he’s lost both of his parents—only in this case he lays the blame for her […]
