Vampire Diaries Post Mortem: The Departed

A very large part of me doesn’t want to write the post mortem right away. I want to linger with the last episode, savoring every drop of action and emotion on my mental palate. I’m a little bit in denial, as with the previous two seasons, I love and hate this year’s finale. Brace yourselves, because here we go. Head Injuries When we last saw Elena, she collapsed in the master bedroom of the Gilbert house, blood flowing from her nose. The episode opens with a dream sequence and Elena dancing to music as she gets ready for school. Aunt […]

Vampire Diaries Post Mortem: Before Sunset

In the penultimate episode of season three, the stories that seemed stuck in idle hit the pedal to the metal for the residents of Mystic Falls.  While I was clear that I was not a fan of last week’s episode, I knew Matt Davis’ evil Rick would juice up the landscape and give this storyline the necessary pump forward. It was a hell of an episode so drop your socks and grab your crocks, we’re going to get wet on this ride. Vampire Barbie & Skipper Make a Great Team Unbeknownst to all our heroes and heroines, Rick turned at the […]

Vampire Diaries Post Mortem: Dangerous Liaisons

That grating sound you heard last night was  The Vampire Diaries slipping off the rails in a massive train wreck.  Don’t get me wrong, there were some good moments.  Everything with Caroline was just absolutely brilliant, I could go on at length about just how amazing Vampire Barbie was, but the contrast with Elena bugged me to no end. So I will apologize now, because this post mortem is going to be a rather pointed deconstruction of character destruction and seemingly OOC (out-of-character) behavior that fed into one contrived plot point.  That contrivance fed the a rail into the spokes and […]

Vampire Diaries Post Mortem: Bringing Out the Dead

Last week ended with a bang, Elijah was back, but this week’s episode was remarkably sober, somber and sad from beginning to end.  While I often speculate about where the writers are going with the story, I am delighted that I am not always right and even more so when they completely catch me off guard.  Tonight’s episode, the tone, the pacing, the delivery and the overall story, was remarkable for its intensity, passion and most of all, for it’s devotion to family and what family means.  Reunited Klaus was not that happy to see Elijah last week and Elijah […]

Vampire Diaries Post Mortem: The Ties That Bind

Okay, I am going to commit a little bit of  Post Mortem Faux Paus this week.  Typically, I like to recap it, run you through the episode, a sort of play by play of the wild (and yes, snarky) thoughts that go through my head while I am indulging in my absolute favorite show.  Yes, that jury is in (in case there was ever any doubt), The Vampire Diaries is one of the best television shows I have ever watched, I am totally addicted, I literally schedule my Thursdays around it and you better have blood or bone showing if you […]
